AAR Field Manual Appendix D

Appendix D of the Association of American Railroads (AAR) Field Manual provides a listing of job codes and data elements utilized when performing repairs to Tank Cars and Covered Hopper Cars not included in standard AAR job codes.

Mark Register

Reporting Marks are stenciled on owned and leased equipment. Marks are used as equipment ID's for all electronic interfaces between railroads, their customers, and Railinc systems and files.

Route File

The Route File (ROUTE) was initially designed to support the Rate EDI Network (REN). The route code is an amalgamation of two Standard Point Location Codes (origin and destination) with a sequential 4-digit number which identifies revenue routes.

Standard Point Location Code

A Standard Point Location Code (SPLC) is assigned to all stations registered by rail carriers. Between six to nine digits, this numeric code is used to specify the physical location of a station.

Standard Transportation Commodity Code

The Standard Transportation Commodity Code (STCC) is a publication containing specific product information used on waybills and other shipping documents. A STCC code is a seven digit numeric code representing 38 commodity groupings.
